Classroom Management 6
It has been said that classroom management can be the key to a successful classroom. Why do you think that could be true? In what ways do classroom management techniques impact student learning?
Yes i think thats true because classroom management is crucial to a teacher because without good management the teacher might not accomplish every thing that they had in their lesson, the students could be running amuck, and your lesson might not reach the kids. I think that the student learning and the management are directly related. My reasoning is that the students learn better when things are running more smoothly and they are engaged. Students are not going to be engaged if you are not managing students around them and if you are not keeping track of your time.
Since taking college classes in the education program, classroom management is a constant discussion topic. Classroom management is also a class and it is the key to being a successful teacher in a classroom. As I have noticed in Mr. Nielsen's class so far, if the students are not continually engaged in an activity or doing something to keep them occupied they easily get off task. If there is no management then the teacher will not be able to complete all that is planned or not have enough control over his or her students. Classroom management is the way all teachers get to know their students and learn how each person works to keep the classroom running and keep a positive learning environment. There is also so much one must teach during the year. You have to plan accordingly to complete all that is necessary, but first you need to learn how to teach your classroom and get to know their learning styles to keep the classroom running without distractions. Classroom management directly affects student learning. Students easily figure out how their teacher teaches and deals with interruptions. Students can easily manipulate you so you have to learn to manage everyone to effectively teach all your students.
Classroom management is a key to a sucessful classroom because the first step to teaching is to get the students in their seats and ready to learn. This is a very important skill because it is our job to make sure that we are teaching all of our students and if we are not managing the classroom then we are probably only teaching some of our students at the time. The teacher needs to be able to manage the room for the ones who don't want to listen as well as the ones who do. Even the students who are ready to learn will not be able to learn if all chaos breaks loose during your lesson.
Classroom management also keep the students happy. Students like positive learning environments with structure. Keeping the environment positive will encourage them to learn or go into things deeper than an chaotic environment. Because it helps learning happen and encourages it, I think it is a huge key to the sucess of a classroom.
Stephanie I agree with you on that if you are not managing the room correctly that most of the students aren't listening. I also agree that if a teacher is bad at management and everything gets out of control then students will not be able to learn, even the ones who are ready to learn. Its important to keep things running good in the classroom because the ones who don't want to pay attention will have a better chance to learn. I have seen in many of my classrooms in college teachers who don't know how to run a classroom and things just fall apart time and again, and you have a really hard time learning in class, and don't get much out of the class. Some of my teachers know so much content it is unbelievable, but they need to know how to teach and manage a classroom to really make their class a success.
I agree with all that is being said thus far. Classroom management is vital to implementing a successful lesson, and keeping students engaged. Working in Mrs. Lockharts' classroom during math brings about many instances of students becoming unengaged. Math is taught cooperatively with Mrs. Evans 4th grade class. Lessons are primarilly taught with students sitting in groups. It requires the students to work with one another and independly at the same time. We have two teachers and 3 UNI students present in the classroom which allows us the opportunity to monitor the classroom sufficiently. If students become off task it is easy for one of us to address the issue by going to the table and sparking discussion, which will keep the students engaged and on task. Most classrooms do not have the luxury of having 2 teachers, and 3 aspiring teachers present which makes monitoring more difficult. However, it is important in any classroom to keep students engaged and focused on the learning tasks. Managing the classroom will make the learning successful, without it students will not gain the full benefits of the lesson.
Classroom Management is very important when trying to keep students on task. I know it can be difficult at times to keep students engaged because there are many distractions throughout the room. Students get bored or think the lesson is too hard. It is important for a teacher to have classroom management so the students are able to learn. I believe it is crucial for the teacher to establish classroom management right away when meeting her students. The students are going to test the waters and see what they can get away with, but this is when the teacher must establish ground rules and let the students know.
I agree with Rachel's blog where she writes that classroom management is the way teachers get to know their students and learn how each student is motivated to learn to maintain a positive learning environment. I believe that classroom management is the key to a successful classroom. Effective teachers are able to identify instructional strategies that will best motivate and inspire students to learn. Because of my inexperience in managing a room full of fifth graders, this task seems quite over whelming to me. This level two experience has been a valuable experience because I have learned by observing experienced teachers at Price Lab use various stategies to maintain and promote productive behaviors while they inspire and motivate students to learn.
I personally believe that classroom management is a nessecity for a calm and relaxed classroom. I think that having a goals and requirements it allows for the students to learn their boundaries and know what to expect if they disobey the boundaries. I think that having classroom management allows for everyone to have fun and be happy because it is a cozier place for them to be.
Working in the classroom the last couple of weeks has showed me how hard it can be to manage a classroom. I have learned many different techniques in getting students attention, and how to respond to misbehavior. One thing that i noticed is that if students are not all faced forward with eyes and ears on the teacher then the teacher will not have all students undivided attention. It is not always possible for students to be facing forward at all times, like when students sit in groups. Things that play a role in distracting students from listening is having things in front of the students that they can play around with and easily get direct attention away from the teacher (ex. whiteboards, worksheets). These are all things teachers have to consider when planning a single lesson. How can I maintain student attention? How can I minimize distraction? How do I keep students engaged? All go along with classroom management. For these reasons I believe classroom management is plays a vital role in creating an effective learning environment.
I believe that this is true. If you are able to keep the attention of your students and they are completely engaged in what you are teaching them, then they will be able to excel in the classroom.
